The Appeal by John Grisham
Although this is a work of fiction, Grisham targets the legal system in this book. There is a lawsuit against a large corporation which illegally dumped toxic waste. As a result of this, the water in the county where the corporation is dumping the waste is contaminated. Although the jury awards the plantiff with millions of dollars, the large corporation appeals the case. Grisham then shows how corporation can easily "buy" a seat on a state supreme court for a couple million dollars. Although this novel does not end like the typical Grisham novel, the storyline/pace is pure Grisham.
